Biography
26-year-old American soprano Lindsey Reynolds is an accomplished and versatile artist with an expanding repertoire that spans opera, recitals, operetta, and interarts collaboration. She has an exciting lineup of performances and projects ahead. Reynolds will perform as Ashley Devon in the U.S. premiere of Missy Mazzoli’s The Listeners with Opera Philadelphia, followed by her debut as Adina in L'elisir d'amore with the New Orleans Opera, and then will take on the role of Mary Louise Smith in the world premiere of She Who Dared with the Chicago Opera Theater. In the summer of 2024, she captivated audiences internationally with recitals at the Aldeburgh Festival of Music and the Arts and a concert celebrating the WWII Liberation of Nice in France.
Reynolds recently completed her tenure as a Ryan Opera Center Ensemble member at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, where her performances included roles such as Barena in Jenufa, covering Sadie in Terrance Blanchard’s Champion, and Clorinda in La Cenerentola. She showcased her versatility in the 2022/2023 season with productions such as Le Comte Ory, Don Carlos, and the world premiere of Proximity. Reynolds also made her debut as the soprano soloist in Poulenc's Gloria at the Grant Park Music Festival.
Her artistry has been shaped by numerous prestigious roles and collaborations. During the 2021/22 season, she portrayed Despina in Così fan tutte and Betty in the film adaptation of Marc Blitzstein's Triple-Sec with Curtis Opera Theater. Additionally, she served as an Emerging Artist with Opera Philadelphia, performing the role of Page in Rigoletto. In the 2020/21 season, Reynolds was a featured soloist in Opera Philadelphia's Lawrence Brownlee and Friends Concert, portrayed Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito, and performed select scenes as Gilda and Adina in Curtis Opera Theatre's Opera on Demand. She also served as a Gerdine Young Artist at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, where she sang the soprano soloist in Highway 1, USA, covered Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, and was featured in the Center Stage Showcase. In the 2019/20 season, Reynolds debuted as Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring and performed Mozart scenes with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin. She was also slated to debut as Lily in the world premiere of Tobias Picker’s Awakenings with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis in 2020, though the production was canceled due to COVID-19.
Reynolds has worked with many renowned artists and conductors, including Anne Sofie von Otter, Maestro Steven Osgood, Stephanie Blythe, and Ben Moore, as well as conductors Corrado Rovaris, Roberto Kalb, Louis Lohraseb, Enrique Mazzola, Stéphane Denève, and Geoffrey McDonald. Her notable roles include Giulietta in Bellini's I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Adina in Donizetti's L'elisir D'amore, Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Monica in Menotti's The Medium, Carrie in Rodgers & Hammerstein's Carousel, Cathleen in Vaughan Williams' Riders to the Sea, and the Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd.
Reynolds has been awarded numerous accolades, including first place in the James Toland Vocal Arts Competition, the Camille Coloratura Awards, the Young Patronesses of the Opera/Florida Grand Opera Competition, the Hal Leonard Art Song Competition, and the National Association of Negro Musicians Competition. She was also the winner of the Musicians Club of Women Competition and received an Emerging Artist Award from Opera Index. Other honors include a second-place finish in the George Shirley Vocal Competition, National YoungArts Foundation Classical Voice Finalist and Silver winner status, and second place in the National Classical Singer competition. She was also featured on NPR’s From the Top performing "Una Donna a quindici anni" from Così fan tutte.
A recipient of scholarships from the Shoshana Foundation and the Richard F. Gold Career Grant, Lindsey also holds distinctions from the Luminarts Fellowship, Opera Society of Chicago, National Society of Arts (Shirley Rabb Winston Voice Scholarship), Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Gordon Parks Foundation, The New Orleans Opera Association’s Wood Operatic Advancement Grant, and the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts Institute. Reynolds holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music.
Outside of her professional career, Lindsey enjoys fostering dogs, volunteering at an animal rescue, playing board games, reading, spending time with family and friends, traveling, and trying out new recipes.
